    Post: spinal fusion

Posted by Faridah Gabriel on 10/24/11

I have just undergone my third spinal op this time it was spinal fusion where I have had titanium screws and rods puts in the lumbar section but now to my dismay and by accident I find out that two screws are leaning into the spinal canal and the one screw is fractured and I'm in constant pain. When I spoke to my doctor about the intense pain I was told to wear my corset all the time to ease the pain as it was caused by excessive scar tissue and that the corset and medication would ease the pain, at no time did he ever mention that a screw is fractured.

My medical aid is exhausted I'm drowning with excess accounts for the prosthesis accounts that I still have to pay for which was used during the operation for which the medical aid did not pay and the anaethetists additional charges for the extra time that I was in theatre that also was not covered by medical aid so how do I even go for a second opinion with no financial means and now I must face this nonsense of dealing with something that's not supposed to be breakable being stuck in my back and face the possibility of yet another operation. Any advice out there would be welcomed. I'm at my wits end.
