Post: Clauses in old land deeds reserving cemetery ownership

April 12, 2010 When one sees the following clauses in an old 1700s land deed in North Carolina what do they mean? Do they mean the old cemeteries remain the property of the seller? “reserving the burying ground where my father and others are laid” and "excepting twenty foot square being a burying place."
