Post: assuming mortgage payments

Posted by stacey on 6/18/07

My mother passed away in February and had a mortgage on
her house. I am listed as joint owner on the deed with
rights of survivorship. I am now paying mortgage payments
since my mother had not taken out the insurance in case of
death on the loan. The bank that it is financed through
says the only way the mortgage can be transferred into my
name is if my credit rating is high enough. If my credit
rating is not high enough, they will not move the mortgage
over into my name. In other words, all of the mortgage
interest that I am paying will still be reported as being
paid by my mother under her social security number. Is
there anything I can do about this?????
