Post: backing out of a contract

Last year I put down 10% of the purchase price and signed
a purchase agreement to purchase a unit in a new condo
construction. The move in date is expected to be 2 months
from now. Recently, I lost my job and I am wondering if I
can back out of the contract. I called the developer's
lawyer and he asked me to wait and see if I can get a job
as they can forfeit my 10% deposit if the financing falls
through. Can somebody help me? Thanks!!!
