Daryl, you should check out the NCRA web site. They are actually looking for prospective students to start their own online program. It might be worth a shot. I have been a court reporter for 32 years and it's been very good for me. If you are good with English and have good manual dexterity, you should give it a try. Most people can easily make it up to 120 - 140 words a minute, but the large majority never get any farther. It should take you nine months to a year to make it that far. If you easily pass your 120 - 140 tests, it seems most people finish and graduate. If you get stuck there, you may not be successful. You need to decide if it's worth it to spend a year of your life trying. There's a big demand for court reporters, both in courts and captioning. I know someone your age who recently started her reporting career and has been very successful. Good luck to you!
