Re: Layed off, starting over, is Court Reporting a good choi

Daryl, if you want to take up court reporting in your 40's GO
FOR IT!! I have been working for the past 18 years as a court
monitor at our local courthouse, and decided to teach myself at
home, part time at age 44, several years ago. I took the home
study course from Stenograph, Phoenix theory and paid about $150
at the time for the home study book, tapes and CD.
I have now been doing steno at the same courthouse for 2 years
and never regretted one day of it!! I'm presently looking for
scopists as you'll see from a recent post that I put up.
Luckily our managers were more than willing to let me "practice"
live in the courthouse, while their tape system was also running
in the background.
Now, I'm getting more and more in demand as my speed has gone
from initially 60wpm to 200 on a "good day". You can also do
work for the hearing impaired, freelance companies, or closed
captioning.
Best of luck!
Andrea
