Former conservative/libertarian turned populist leftist (not a liberal, but a leftist) here, too.
As for Beard and his brilliant book, it is well known among academics, but no surprise that the corpwhorate media and educational hierarchy never brought it to the attention of the public. Here is a url that has much of the book itself and some excellent reviews: http://lachlan.bluehaze.com.au/books/beard_usa_constitution.html Another book that is very similar and perhaps easier to read is Jerry Fresia's Toward an American Revolution. Fresia a former lecturer in Poli Sci at UMass and now runs a painting studio Italy. His brilliant book is available here online in its entirety: http://cyberjournal.org/authors/fresia/ Fresia's TAAR covers much of the same territory but was written only about 15 years ago and is easier to read than Beard's book, wich was written almost 100 years ago. Generally both books show the Founding Fathers for what they really were--opportunists who did what they did for self serving reasons. And Fresia goes further and explores the top vs bottom relationship that America was built around. Combine Fresia's ideas with Jim Goad's ideas (read his brilliant book, Redneck Manifesto!) and you get some idea of my own politics. Also see my blog--I am in the slow process of doing a documentary on some of these issues: http://www.leftwingmediamachine.blogspot.com
