I know the thread has since taken a different tack, but I have to respond to this statement: the requirements for pharmacists to fill Rxs are not present in these 3rd world countries. You have a guy who can't speak English pulling a bottle off a shelf and filling your bottle up with what he thinks he's reading. It makes me almost faint to even think about it. Pharmacists here have to be up on all the drugs, all the side effects, all the different drug interactions. All the guy/gal/child in China or Mexico has to do is be willing to show up, work for slave wages 18 hours a day. And you want someone like that sending you something that you life may depend on? many drugs sound very similar but are completely different in their use and effect. Drug errors occur all the time in hospitals where the nurses and pharmacists are trained, skilled, and knowlegable about dose ranges and effects. But accidents happen. If the guy filling the prescription doesn't have any idea what he's doing, what safeguards do we have? Of course your argument makes sense from a capitalistic economic standpoint but not from a medical or human standpoint. I want my pharmacist to be the one who knows me, who called me when something was prescribed over the phone that he questioned because he knew me. Turned out the PA had read the order wrong when she phoned in the Rx.
