    Re: Patent Practice as Solo.

You might want to target some firms that specialize in
patent prosecution to gain experience before embarking as a
solo attorney specializing this field. I worked for United
Technologies Corporation for eight years as an aerospace
engineer before going to law school. We submitted literally
thousands of patent applications per year from our various
companies (Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Otis Elevator, Sikorsky
Helicopters, Carrier Industries, Hamilton Sundstrand, etc.)
and outsourced ALL of the applications! I also hold an
engineering degree, but got sick of looking at blueprints
and specs. all day long (as well as dealing with fellow
geeky "dilbert" types). I now do real estate, criminal
defense, and wills mostly. If you really are interested in
IP or Patent work, you should get some exposure (and do some
networking) first; just my thoughts. This industry is tough
and most big-time inventors or firms won't trust just
anybody with their patent work for fear of losing out if any
screw-ups occur. Most small-time inventors are too cheap to
pay for your efforts or think every piece of shi*
contraption is the next best mousetrap. Good luck in your
    endeavors.
