Post: Social Security for Felons

I've been told that felons currently serving time are not eligible for Social Security benefits while incarcerated if "convicted" of a crime. What about if a person spent a year in Federal lockup but did not plead guilty until a year later. He served time but was not "convicted" until he plead. Before you say the conviction counts from the day he was arrested, I have some case law that points otherwise. If this person is eligible, he is owed a lot of money. Any thoughts?
