I've been practicing for 20 years, the last two from home.
I'm glad I made this change. My advise is to negotiate with
a lawyer friend to meet your clients at their office when
necessary. My overhead is about $640 per month for webbased
fax, my cell phone (which is what I use on my bus cards),
etc. I meet clients for free at a friend's office, as needed.
1. Do find a way to meet with other attorneys, perhaps in a
network setting, at least once a month, etc.-gives you a
perspective on what is going on outside the traditional
office setting and increases chances for referrals.
2. DO set a discipline of working hours when all "home"
stuff is off limites; otherwise, your home life will
encroach on your practice.
Enjoy your "new office".
