My grandparents have a trust fund setup for me through
Merril Lynch. For the past 3 years I have not disclosed
that on my tax returns because the folks at HR Block and
Jackson Hewitt told me that it wasn't necessary to disclose
that to the government since trust funds are considered
gifts, not actual income. Yesterday, I get a letter from
the IRS stating that I owe them $3,040 because I did not
disclose the trust fund on my returns. What are my options?
Is there anyway around this? Thanks.
