Post: Wrongly filled prescription
Posted by Lou on 5/17/05
I have been diagnosed with a cronic active hepatitis c. Before choosing a most appropriate therapy, a gastroeterologist requested an extensive laboratory blood analysis and a liver biopsy test. When those were reviewed the phisician prescribed a particular combination therapy (a particular type of a subcutaneous interferon injestion and an antiviral capsules to be taken together)to follow during the next 12 months. After an almost 6 months period of being on this medication, the pharmacy admitted that they did not read the prescription fully and were issuing a wrong type of injection. They were reading only the main name of the drug but did not read the phisician's foot note describing which particular type of this drug he found to be appropriate to treat my desease most effectively. I feel that the pharmacy was negligable and I am very concern that I did not achieve a full benefit of chemotherapy and possibly did more damage to my liver and certainly lost a chance to treat this desease ever again and eventually die from a progresive liver failure. The drugs are so complex and its side effects very dificult to endure. Moreover, these drugs are not even covered anymore by my insurance company. Please, help me understand if I have any legal grounds to sue this pharmacy and seek any damages and how to go about this process. Thank you.
