It would be beyond foolish to ignore a suit, the plaintiff automatically gets a default judgment, they get a certificate of judgment and start garnishing and attaching everything in sight. Libel and slander are notoriously hard to prove although not in every situation. just because you don't think they can win is not a reason to ignore it. we had a saying in law school "you're sued, you're screwed." you have to defend but then can move for a dismissal or summary judgment. damages are what are the hardest to prove in these cases.
