Dear Help!: You do have recourse. You have been slandered
(re: the spoken falsehoods) and perhaps libeled (if the
falsehoods have been written, and emails count as 'written').

First, you must prove that the statements made about you are
false. Then you must prove that you have been damaged
(monetarily).

The latter will be the most difficult, since you must prove
that your business was hurt by the slander/libel; and not
because you had a 'hard time' getting off the ground when
you sold your agency and switched jobs.

You have a lawsuit. Good luck!
