Post: my job after settlement

I found this site last week. What a great help! I just
settled for lifelong medical for both my knees. In the next
five years I will be replacing both. (my doc says I'm too
young right now) My question is, since I've settled, do I
lose my employment status? Will I be able to stay on
as "Out on work related disability" until I'm repaired? My
lawyer said they do not have to keep me, now that I've
settled. My employment is with a County in the state of
Calif.
