Manager, Litigation Practice Group - This person will be responsible for managing the Corporate Law Department's Litigation Practice Group and all corporate litigation, including class actions, regulatory and administrative litigation. The successful candidate will have outstanding academic credentials, 8 or more years of hands-on litigation experience, the ability proactively to manage our litigation risks and relationships with outside counsel, and a strategic vision for resolution of those risks. The successful candidate also will have the ability to capture, analyze, and report meaningful data on, and measurements of, our litigation trends, results, expenditures and exposures. Strong managerial skills required. The position will report directly to the Chief Legal Officer and serve as a Senior Manager within the Corporate Legal Department.

Leads and manages practice area within Corporate Legal. Handles legal matters of significant complexity. Provides counsel to senior management. Possesses expertise in practice area which includes one or more complex fields of law, including, but not limited to, the following: securities, labor, contracts, e-commerce and technology, corporate coverage, bankruptcy, claims, regulatory compliance, intellectual property rights, and commercial litigation management. Provides legal services to one or more operating departments. Continues usual lawyer's functions of research, preparing legal documents, negotiating with outside parties, rendering opinions, consulting with and advising clients, and representing the company in dealing with others. Consistently partners with executives and senior management to provide consultation on business matters.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyzes, reviews, drafts, and edits highly complex legal documents and memorandums for senior level management, including, but not limited to, the following: contracts, policies, leases, business forms, and employment materials. Researches, investigates, and analyzes significant statutory and case law that applies to business matters and/or legal questions posed by senior management.
Analyzes and assesses legal risks on significant and complex business matters and makes and presents tactical and strategic recommendations regarding the legal implications of these matters to the business.

Consistently communicates and/or provides counsel to senior management and other areas of the business regarding legal questions/matters.

Manages significant and complex cases, projects, and/or business matters/issues that are critical and important to the company's business strategy. Identifies, monitors, analyzes and reports legal matters/cases within specialization and counsels/provides recommendations to the legal department/senior management regarding those matters.

Has substantial interaction with individuals/departments outside of Progressive, such as regulators and outside counsel, in connection with significant and complex cases/legal matters/business issues.

Creates agenda for practice group incorporating Progressive's strategic business goals and needs. Sets work standards and goals for quality and efficiency within the practice group. Assigns projects and legal assignments to support staff and attorneys. Supervises support staff and mid-level and senior attorneys.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Juris Doctorate required- Active state attorney's license- 10 + years of legal experience/training- Subject matter expert in applicable practice area (which could include one or more fields of law)- Superior knowledge of the business- Strong ability to handle and solve substantial strategic business issues- Superior written/verbal communication skills- Superior project management skills- Superior presentation skills- Displays leadership qualities- Strong work ethic- Strong analytical skills- Strong interpersonal skills- Strong persuasive skills- Team player- Basic aptitude in Microsoft Office Suite- Strong organizational skills- Preferred - managerial skills

WORK CONDITIONS:
- Typical office environment
- Traditional work hours, but will frequently require evening and/or weekend hours
- Limited travel - may require occasional overnight stays
