The position is for an attorney in the law department of Prudential Real Estate Investors (PREI), the real estate investment management unit of Prudential Financial, Inc. PREI specializes in commercial real estate and related investments on behalf of pension fund and other institutional investors. PREI currently has over $30 billion of assets under management for both domestic and international clients, with investment programs in the U.S., Europe, Latin America and Asia. Investments are made in the form of equity, debt, securities in real estate investment trusts and interests in real estate operating companies.
PREI's law department comprises ten attorneys, seven in the U.S.; this opening will fill a vacant attorney position in the U.S. group. The attorney will work with the domestic real estate investment clients in supporting acquisitions, sales, financings and other investment matters and servicing domestic investment portfolios. In addition, the attorney will engage, manage and interface with outside counsel, develop processes and procedures for new domestic real estate investment programs, and address compliance issues related to the business unit's activities. Experience with structuring investment funds is a plus.
Required Skills & Experience
Candidates should possess significant management skills, ability to coordinate and supervise numerous and complex matters, and a willingness to explore new ways of serving the clients in a fast-paced environment.
The candidate should (a) be thoroughly familiar with all phases of commercial real estate transactions, (b) have a basic knowledge of laws related to commercial investment through private placements with institutional investors and general corporate law, (c) have a strong client focus, and (d) have exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Candidates should have a minimum of seven to eight years of experience handling complex real estate and corporate transactions and be willing to learn related areas of law impacting on the activities of the business unit, including ERISA, New Jersey Insurance Law, Investment Advisers Act, and other Securities laws and regulations.
