Bankruptcy Ombudsman
Calabasas, CA

The Bankruptcy Ombudsman ensures that borrowers in bankruptcy and their attorneys have a means to seek a high-level review of disputes or issues relating to how their loan is serviced in bankruptcy. The Ombudsman will research and respond to each loan-level matter brought to his/her attention and, if errors are discovered, ensures that the Bankruptcy Department corrects the borrowers account, issues the borrower a refund, or takes other appropriate remedial actions. Additionally, the Ombudsman will identify the root cause of each loan-level dispute brought to his/her attention and ensure that any systemic problems are brought to the attention of senior management in the Bankruptcy Department for prompt resolution.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
* Analyzing inquiries and reviewing Loan Administration's servicing systems for factual research.
* Reviewing relevant court pleadings.
* Consulting with Bankruptcy Department personnel on factual issues and seeking advice from the Legal Division on legal issues, where appropriate.
* Identifying the root cause of the complaint or dispute.
* Notifying Bankrupcy Department senior management of the root cause for correction and resolution.
* Obtaining settlement authority from Bankruptcy Department senior management where appropriate.
* Preparing and sending a response to the inquiry.

A Successful Candidate Will Have:
* 5 - 10 years experience working within the consumer bankruptcy and mortgage industry as a Mortgage Servicer Bankruptcy Department Sr. Manager, Bankruptcy Trustee, Debtor/Creditor Attorney or equivalent position.
* Knowledge of the laws regulating the mortgage-banking industry
* Knowledge of bankruptcy laws and procedures, alternative dispute resolution, and mediation
* Ability to quickly assimilate new and diverse concepts and information, formulate responsive strategies and solutions, and achieve consensus among often competing or conflicting business objectives or constituencies.
* Superior writing and oral communication skills.
* Strong computer literacy including Word, Lotus Notes, and Excel.
