In this position, you will be working closely with engineers to obtain appropriate intellectual property protection by preparing and prosecuting patent applications for inventions in a wide array of technologies. You may be providing guidance on miscellaneous patent-related intellectual property issues or some aspects of development and maintenance of the corporation's domestic and foreign patent portfolios, performing patent-related analysis in support of litigation and licensing efforts, evaluating patent-related submissions from third parties and potential patent acquisition opportunities and/or conducting training to employees concerning the patenting process and requirements for patentability.
You must possess a J.D. degree and Bar membership, in good standing. Additional qualifications include:
- A minimum of four + year’s legal experience in intellectual property and a technical background in electronics, computers or physics
- Ability to work in teams, with business and transactional attorneys and technology specialists, to evaluate the relative value of patents and patent portfolios by detailed analysis of the patents and other pertinent materials
- Proficiency in preparing and reviewing claim charts, knowing Federal Circuit law on claim construction, invalidity, and other issues potentially arising in a patent litigation or negotiation
- Ability to handle large amounts of information, including prioritizing, understanding and articulating limits of knowledge, understanding scope and extent of attendant risks
- Experience in patent litigation, including Markman* briefing and hearings, patent analysis, licensing, patent preparation and prosecution experience would be an added advantage
