First have you consulted a lawyer?
Common sense question, did you ask for the security deposit
back?
Did the landlord refuse to refund your security deposit?
Ask for the security deposit back nicely, maybe he'll give it
back.
If not, your best bet is to go to the local Legal Aid Office
and get a free consultation as to how to proceed.
Maybe file small claims suit, but consult an attorney first,
some private attorneys will give you a free consultation if
you request nicely and indicated that you are short on cash.
