Under federal criminal procedure, which should apply in all jurisdictions in the US, I believe it is the juvenile who has to ask for his rights, not the parent or attorney. There is a famous case where an attorney called and left a message for his client not to talk to the police until he got there. The police took the message then proceded to speak with the client, who confessed to the crime. The Supreme Court ruled that the confession was good. I would recommend hiring a defense attorney and getting his opinion on the matter.
