If you haven't paid them anything in ten years, then don't
give them a penny. In fact, if you havent paid them anything
within the statute of limitations for collecting a debt in
your state, then don't pay them a penny.
The reason to not pay is that as soon as you make a payment,
you'll start a whole new statue of limitations going.
e.g. If you last made a payment in 1999, and the debt was
written off around the same time, and the statute of
limitations in yourstate is 6 years, then, even if you don't
pay, they can not get a court order t force you to pay.
But, if you now pay them ANYTHING, that statute of
limitations will start rolling again, and they will be able
to enforce payment in the court.
(Even after a statute of limitations has expired, a company
can still try to collect on a debt, they just can not have
it enforced in a court of law.)
ALthoug, I am curious as to how they managed to get an
attachment on your bak account without already having gone
through a law suit...
