Post: unpaid wages

Posted by nyttlytt on 8/12/07
I recently filed a claim against a previous employer for
unpaid wages. after working for 2 1/2 months without any
pay, i received a check for 800. when in asked when i
would receive the balance of my pay i was told soon.
after another week or so, i received another check for
1200 and was told that i was paid in full including the
remainder of the month (which was just a few more days).
i had worked over 74 hours per week which included a 22
hour shift. our agreement before i began work was that i
would receive minimum wage...$7.50. as it turns out, my
employer had changed my rate of pay, to a flat $800 per
month, without my knowledge.
after receiving only $2000 for over 600 hours of work, i
quit. my employer now owed me in excess of $4500 (which
included over and double time).
i missed my labor claim conference, more than 60 miles
away, i have had to sell my car to make ends meet, a
overheating other car and absolutely no extra for
travelling such a distance. my telephone has been
restricted to place anything but local calls and when
given the opportunity to use a friends phone, tried to
connect with the labor board but the line was continuously
busy.
bottom line, i forfeited my claim and was sent a
consession of $725 from my previous employer.
SHE PUT A STOP PAYMENT ON THE CHECK!
what do i do?
