Post: Hipaa Violation

Posted by JOanne on 3/25/08
I received a call from a person who lives in the same town as me. She had received my x-rays from an orthopedic office the her son went to. Somehow they mailed my x-rays to her son who is a 15 year old boy. I am a 53 year old woman and I didn't request that my x-rays be mailed, and our names are not aphebetically even close. But somehow they mailed them to a person I didn't know. I just got lucky that the person knew my name because I am active in the community and called me. I wonder if this is a HIPAA violation. I know I am not happy that my x-rays were sent to a stranger. What should I do?
