Post: TITLE IX IS NONSENSICAL

Title IX is a joke. Before you pass me off as a male chavinist hear me out because this law doesn't make sense. I further believe that the reason no one gets anywhere arguing against this law is because they are immediately tagged "machista" for speaking out against it. They may not be as machista as you think. They may simply be thinking logically. HEAR ME OUT! It would be like giving equal number of scholarships to males as females pursuing nursing school. Would this make any sense? More females pursue nursing than males. However, this does not mean that there are not enough males to fill 50% of the class. It simply means that there are more qualified females than males simply because there are more females pursuing nursing on the whole. Likewise, there are more males pursuing athletics than females. Therefore, does it make any sense to give equal number of scholarships to both genders? This does little more than lower the playing field. This also causes parents to force their daughters down athletic paths that the girls would rather not pursue. Whether it is human nature or society that pushes more males into athletics than females is a question I cannot answer. However, it is no different than the fact that more females than males partake in nursing and other female related activities. The only foreseeable benefit of Title IX is that it allows more females to recieve scholarships. But what good is this when it is at the expense of a male who would, absent the law, be more qualified to receive the scholarship. It is not fair that males who throw all their eggs in one basket (the athletics basket) must forfeit their scholarships to less qualified females who Title XI allows to diversify and focus e.g. on academics, social work, etc. Then if they still aren't qualified to be "Title Nined" into a scholarship, they have academics, social work, or other talents to fall back on in hopes of earning a scholarship. The most obvious argument is the economic argument. The only reason scholarships were ever given out for athletics was because the athletics draw revenue for the school. So why in would you want to restructure the athletic programs to put them in a less economically sound position. This has and will continue to do nothing more than hurt the overall number of scholarships available. Though more woman will benefit with Title IX than without, they are unfairly benefiting. They simply draw no revenue and so should not join in the profit. You don't see men protesting beauty pageants (e.g. Miss. America, etc.) claiming that they want to have equal opportunities to win beauty pageants. Sorry guys, there just isn't a market for that. TITLE IX IS A JOKE. THINK ABOUT IT. I'M SORRY THAT YOU MIGHT WANT A SCHOLARSHIP, BUT WE ALL WANT A SCHOLARSHIP. ONLY THOSE QUALIFIED CAN RECEIVE THEM OTHERWISE THE WHOLE PROGRAM IS JEOPARDIZED. YOU ARE NOT THINKING STRAIGHT TO DISAGREE. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT REALLY ANGERS ME AND I ASK THAT YOU GIVE IT SOME DEEP THOUGHT. IT IS CLEAR. -FELLOW AMERICAN DISAPPOINTED AT THE IGNORANCE OF THOSE WHO SUPPORT THIS LAW.
