Post: Sending a bill 4 1/2 years after the work done?

    Posted by JaneNY on 2/21/02

We had a will done from scratch in '91 and paid $175 for it.
In '96 we contacted the attorney to put our second
daughter's name on it. We never received a bill, didn't
give it a second thought. We then received a bill of $200
in 2001 for adding this name in '96, together with a letter
that was not signed by the attorney who did it. This
attorney has now passed away and the attorneys for his
estate are insisting we pay this amount. We do not think
the amount reasonable for the work odne, nor do we think its
reasonable to send someone a bill for work 4 1/2 years after
it was done. We think that the bill we received was from
someone else in the office who was combing records and
seeing what money they could come up with. Are there any
statutes of limitations on billing practices? Help!
