Post: Plaintiff is Ordained Clergy
Posted by Kelli on 12/03/09
I was recently the defendant in a divorce case. My ex husband is an ordained elder of the united methodist church (UMC). As a member of the UMC, I have rights. According to the UMC "Book of Discipline" (church law), I also have rights, although they were never followed, as a clergy spouse during the divorce process. Speaking with his superiors is one of my rights. The Judge ruled (because my ex insisted) that I am not allowed to talk with his superiors. Would this not be infringing on my rights?
