Post: Change of Status from H1b to F1 approved then cancelled

Posted by Pavel on 8/27/10
Hello,
I really hope you can provide some advice for me on this.
I was on H1b visa working for my employer. I was admitted
into PhD program at a university. I decided to change my
status from H1b to F1 and filed the I-539 application.
After that I sent a withdrawal request because I was going
to travel outside the county. But my application was
approved a week later. Now, I just started school and my
application was withdrawn (they probably finally read the
letter). So, now I am out of status. I can't return to H1b
because I left the company, and my F1 status was withdrawn.
I scheduled the appointment with the USCIS field office,
but I am afraid they are just going to deport me since I am
out of status.
Any advise on how to return to the F1 status? Can't file
reinstatement since I never was on F1 (I was on H1b).
Thank you!
