Post: Daughter's undesirable boyfriend is an illegal

Posted by Shirin on 2/11/08
I am a US Citizen. My 17 year old daughter, adopted out of El Salvador and also a US Citizen, is strongly attracted to a 21 year old illegal immigrant from Honduras. He has perhaps a fifth grade level of education, and barely speaks English. This is the second time he has entered the country, after having been deported once, so this is felony reentry. Well, my kid is forever trying to sneak out to sleep with him etc. I initially spoke with the young man, and told him that I wished to have a year to observe his character, and if he proved to be of decent character I would not oppose the match. Indeed, I was prepared to act as his patron, and get him trained in some sort of marketable field, eg electrician, HVAC technician etc. if he met the following conditions; (1) He had to stop sleeping with the girl, although I permitted unsupervised dates. (2) He had to attend Spanish mass at the local Catholic church. (3) He had to work on his GED, and I agreed to provide him with tuition. Well, he did none of the above, and he is sleeping around with multiple girls; my daughter knows this, and STILL the little fool is infatuated with him. Don't ask me why; he's not that good looking. I have spoken to him directly telling him not to call; I have spoken to members of his community having them pass on the message; I have attempted to get the police to go pick him up (no luck); and I have spoken to his landlord threatening legal action if he continues to rent to this guy. (The landlord just laughed; it was the funniest thing he had heard in a while.) I have alarms on every door and window in the house so I know if the kid is slithering out, I have thrust her into two college courses and forbidden her to have a job in order to fill up her time and deprive her of spare cash to assist her in these escapedes; I have taken away her license, and I have moved her college funds into a vehicle that she will not be able to access until she is 30 (I can pay for her college out of other funds.) What more can I do to get rid of this pestilential boyfriend?
