Post: Internet Defensive Trademark

On April 5, 2004, Registry Services Corporation, under
contract with ICANN, launched a Sunrise period for .pro
domain names. The .pro domain names are the last of
eight Global Top Level Domains (gTLDs), which include
the .com and .net domain names. The Sunrise period is
focused exclusively for trademark and intellectual
property defensive registrations.
The sunrise period is almost over! It ends on May 14,
2004.
RegistryPro is offering corporations and law firms
trademark protection through a Defensive Name Registration
product available through select Registrars (e.g.,
corporate.register.com, domainpeople.com).
Three defensive options are offered:
• ProDefense
Provides a second-level name defense against the most
common Internet name format
(e.g., mark.pro)
• ProBlock
Provides a broad defense against an exact trademark or
service mark across all profession-specific
domains
(e.g. mark.med.pro, mark.law.pro, as well as mark.cpa.pro).
• ProGuard
Provides a narrower defense on one individual profession-
specific domain
(e.g. mark.med.pro, but not mark.law.pro or mark.cpa.pro).
