Hi Jon,

Just found this site, and can see it's not very active, so
I'm not sure you'll ever come back to see my posting...but...

I'm not a lawyer, I am, however, a technical consultant in
the area of digital litigation support and litigation
document databases and applications. So I work almost
exclusively with law firms. Many law firms use WordPerfect,
or Corels WordPerfect Suite, but in other industries
Microsoft Office 97 probably is prevalent. If you're going
to do much electronic data transfer, Office is probably a
good bet, especially with Excel in the package.

As far as calendaring and case management software goes, that
isn't something I deal with often, but I do know that many
firms have custom applications built, many use Microsoft's
Access database as a foundation.

Concerning network issues, NT is easier to configure, Novell
is more stable (but NT will do just fine for your needs). I
have heard that Mac has a new "plug and play" type of
automatic client/server configuration, but once again, you
may run into some compatibility issues.
