    Post: spinal cord stimulator

    Posted by Rose on 12/20/08

I had a spinal cord stimulator inserted in 1998, the
battery was changed in 2001. In March of 2008, my battery
ran out. March 27 2008, my physician changed my old system
to a rechargable system changing the connectors and the
battery. When the medtronic tech turned the unit on while
I was in recovery room I only felt shocking type pain in
    my abdomen.
The unit did not work so the tech turned my unit off and
it has been off since my surgery in March.
My physician suggested we remove the entire unit and go to
a bionic system. I am afraid to have the leads removed in
my spinal column because the leads have beem embedded in
my spinal column for 10 years.
Therefore I am dealing with alot of pain, I wish my
physician would have used a battery that was compatable
    with the old system.
The medtronics tech thought my leads were faulty,
although I disagree because the battery ran out as the
usual protocol as in the past.
I believe the connectors with the rechargable system were
faulty. It bothers me so many people are having problem
with this system yet it is still being used.
