    So my step father is also a court reporter using Maestro. He
    uses that 9-pin serial key as well. However, my question is a
    little different:

    There are adapters that can connect to these 9-pin keys and
    allow them to be plugged into USB ports (making them usable on
    modern computers as 9-pin plugs are no-longer the standard). We
    tried to connect using the adapter, but it did not work at all.
    Does anyone here happen to know why or can refer me to their
    computer specialist that would be able to answer this?
