Re: Update -- Ohio Attorney -- Solo for 4 months

I'm truly sorry that I took the time to post at all. I didn't
realize that my post would produce so much vitriol.
For the record, I've been licensed for almost 10 years (8 at a small
plaintiffs' firm and more than 1 year with an insurance defense
outfit). Before I took the plunge, I spent months networking with
former clients, colleagues, experts, and even opposing attorneys who I
knew would rememember to think of me if cases came there way that they
didn't want to take. I got listed on the assignment lists for all the
local municipal courts. I sent announcements to local doctors and
real estate agents. I posted ads in local church bulletins, and on
bulletin boards at local churches and community and senior centers. In
the fall, my ad will appear in football programs for several local
high schools.
Most of my current cases are divorce, juvenile, and criminal. I also
have several PI cases, insurance bad faith, an eviction, and an action
to quiet title. In the last month, my website brought in 5 out-of-
state clients who wanted me to contest various traffic citations
while traveling through Ohio. Those little traffic cases alone
generated $1,200 in fees.
I realize that some of my early success is anomalous. And I'm sure
that I'm going to have some dry spells. However, I think that the
connections I've cultivated will keep generating work. In fact,
several of my current clients have referred their friends to me.
There is simply no substitute for hard work. If you find that
difficult to believe, then I feel sorry for you and your clients.
