Joel: If I were you, I would also file a complaint against your former lawywer with the State Bar. You can find out how to do this at www.calbar.ca.gov. Every lawyer has the responsibility to keep in contact with their client, promptly communicate any significant developments, and perform competently. Worker's compensation lawyers have their fees statutorily set, so many of them only do as little as possible since there is no money in it. Sounds like, unfortunately, you got one of those. Oh - and make every appearance in your case, so you don't miss any dates because failure to do so can mean the end of your case. P.S: You have up to one year after the misconduct to file a complaint, so you're still good if you decide to pursue the matter with the State Bar.
