    You dont need one for Canada, and can live their indefinately.
    US customs do not treat Canadians the same as other illegal
    aliens from other countries. If you have any problems, return
    to Canada through land, and they cannot tell how long you have
    been to the US as visa stamps are not required. You can just
    lie and say 5 months when you have been gone for 5 years.

    If a canadian doesnt use visa, and goes as a short stayer, and
    returns to canada by land through the US Canada boarder, there
    is no chance you will get caught. You will however, not be able
    to legally work.
