Post: long-term document review?

Posted by L on 7/11/06
As you know, I closed my law office, and have decided to beomce a teacher. I'm almost done with the process and expect to receive job offers from schools. I had also decided to go inactive (law license), not pay any more bar dues, and turn in my bar card. Suddenly, I get a call about a long-term document review job paying $35/hr. The recruiter says it will be 1-2 years long with some overtime, that I could make over $70k a year. When I asked her if I must keep my law license active, she says I must keep it active for this job. Teaching jobs pay about $40k/year. 1) Do you think a doc review job is reliable enough that I can count on 1-2 years of income at $70k/year+? 2) Do you think doc review jobs really require active law license? I thought even fresh grads without law licenses worked on those gigs ... Keeping my license active will require about $500 I need to pay very soon. I wonder if this doc gig is worth that money and foregoing teaching position. If I go inactive I just need to pay $50.
