Well, what would you counter sue for? Defamation as well?

As for his case, what kind of evidence is present to support your
claim that he was abusive? I dont mean to make excuses for anyone,
especially an abusive scumbag, but you should start getting
everything together to fight this out in court. Are there any
reports (medical/police/etc) to support your claim? Is your grand
daughter old enough to handle telling her story? Is there anyone
else who can cooberate her story? Any pictures, declarations, etc?

You need an attorney that specializes in family law. The local
papers will air out ALL of your personal business, and will also
have little to no impact on the case at hand...think long and hard
before going that route.
