    Have you seen this link?
    http://www.washrecord.com/faqFA.htm#FA2

This looks like a good site that should answer your questions.
Whether you ever get your right to possess a firearm again,
getting a conviction expunged is ALWAYS a good idea if you are
    entitled to do so.

I didn't read the entire site, because I don't know what your
    particular circumstances are.

I have no expertise in WA law, but I think first things first
would be the order of the day. If I were in your shoes, I would
get my state expungement and as soon as that is granted, then I
would proceed on the federal, because what IF the WA court should
    deny your request?

If you can afford a lawyer, it's a good idea to get one who has
expertise and knowledge of CURRENT WASHINGTON state laws.
(There is a lot of stale info on the internet.)

FYI: There has recently been quite a bit of activity, both state
    and federal, on expungements.

I note that a bill was introduced in the 107th Congress on 3/21/01
which appears to try to create a federal expungement law similar
to many existing now in the states. Alas, it was referred to
Committee -- and who knows if we'll ever see it again. It was
called: Clear Your Good Name Act.

Again, getting a Washington lawyer is a good way to go, if you can
    afford it.

If you have more questions, please re-post on Legal Questions
board, as that is where I check most often.
