"Cases that can't be won by law, should never be taken by a
lawyer to start with." That's an incredibly naive statement.
There are often cases that call for a change or extension of
existing law. There are often cases where a principled stand
is demanded. But most often, the lawyer's knowledge of the
facts evolves as the case is developed through discovery and
    pretrial procedures.

If you had a bad experience, I would guess that it fell in the
latter category. Maybe you didn't have all the facts to tell
your lawyer. Or maybe you shaded the facts. In either event,
would you have preferred that your lawyer bail out in the
middle of the case after learning all the facts?
