Cops don't make $100,000 a year. If you make Captain and work a lot of
overtime, maybe. I know this because I have family and friends in law
enforcement. I have also filed bankruptcy for several cops. They really
dont make much, work long hours of boredom and domestic disputes, and
typically deal with societies dregs. Not to mention it is incredibly
dangerous. Check out the divorce, suicide, and drug abuse rates for
cops. You know what other profession is similar to that? Solo law
practice, except add a ton of student loan debt.

One of my childhood friends is a cop and loves it. He makes good money,
but not anywhere near the exaggerations you hear on this board. It is the
    right job for certain people.
