Post: Representing individuals vs. businesses

Posted by Ron D. on 4/25/06
Good morning fellow solos,
I'm wondering what kind of success other solos have had in
generating business clients. I've been practicing as a
solo for several years. I've tried to build a business
client base, but it seems like the solo market consists of
individuals with their typical consumer issues (wills,
criminal, bankruptcy, divorce, personal injury, real
estate). Occassionally, I will receive a business-startup,
but these clients rarely grow enough to become the type of
client I am looking for - that is, one who produces
regular (or at least sem-regular) legal work. It seems
that these types of clients seek out larger firms.
I'd love to hear some opinions. Should we, as solos,
concentrate on the "individual" market? Do enough
businesses bother with solos to make chasing them
worthwhile, or is this a waste of time?
Thanks in advance for any opinions.
