And he settled with the car insurance from the driver, then we can not
take action against the driver?
I'm sorry, your legal system is so different from ours, that's why I'm
asking.

Just because you tell that story about the couple. I'm sad to hear
that.
In our case... we are not married, I'm with him because I love him.
The money he received ain't gone. I just want to give him a life. I
mean, he was very intelligent and now he has no chance of whatever.
the only thing I can do, is trying to give him love, a life as normal
possible. And that I try. It just makes me feel sad that in those
circumstances, the lawyer did not do what he had to do. If we made
clear that we did not wanted that, etc.
But nothing to do.
