I didn't say it was a huge factor, it's one of the factors
contributing about 10% of the total score in my predictor.

Let's take your typical biglaw douchebag and score him:

1) attractive: 0
2) high SES: 10 (rich parents and connections help. so does
credible ability to play golf, tennis, etc.)
3) IQ: 30
4) energy 10 (low energy lawyers won't survive biglaw)
5) ambition: 10
6) communication skills: 10 ( to even get a biglaw job)
7) manipulation skills: 10 ( to survive the politics if
nothing else)

8) leadership (helpful to move up, EC's help in job
interviews): 10

that's a feoqking 90, dude, a high score and a partner
material.

now, some of them may fall 20 points short, and end up with a
70, but still "successful" by societal standards: they can
move onto in-house or government jobs, etc.

EXAMPLE:

from the total score of 90 above, say he was a poor kid. that
still gives him an 80; say he lacks leadership skills, that's
a 70, but he can still use his biglaw credentials to find well-
paying jobs.
