At least five people have died after confrontations with
Dillard's security guards

Dillard's has landed itself in the center of controversy.
Dillard's has a policy of hiring only off-duty law
enforcement officers to provide security in its stores.

Five (5) people have died after confrontations with
Dillard's security guards since 1994. Four of the five
Dillard's deaths occurred in Texas, including one in
Arlington. The fifth was in Memphis, Tennessee.

One man was shot and killed during a confrontation with
Dillard's security at an Arlington, Texas Dillard's, while
another was hog-tied and beaten until he was foaming at
the mouth.

Dillard's Target Minorities as Shoppers

Dillard's has also had dozens of lawsuits filed against
them alleging that Dillard's target minorities as
shoplifters. Two of the five people who have been killed
due to Dillard’s security guards were black, two were
Hispanic and one was Anglo.

Nationwide, dozens of lawsuits have been filed alleging
that Dillard's security guards and Dillard's store
employees harass, abuse and falsely accuse minority
customers of shoplifting. Multiple juries have found that
Dillard's Corporate and Dillard's security guards acted
improperly toward minority shoppers.

During depositions for one case, several Dillard's
security officers admitted that code words were used for
African-Americans. Dillard's security officers at the
store routinely watched, and sometimes searched, African-
American customers.

Dillard's Employment Discrimination

Dillard's has also had lawsuits filed against them by
former sales associates. Other Dillard's employees have
joined the sales associates.
