Re: Outsourcing legal work to India?

No, teaching and police are paid very well, and have great benefits. A typical teacher can make $50,000.00 a year with health insurance, a pension, and about four months off a year, not to mention employment security. The Boston Globe this past week had a story about how many cops make more than $200,000.00 a year with overtime (and many, many make more than $100,000.00), plus they receive great pensions and insurance. And these two professions command huge respect, to the point of arrogance (police are nowhere near the top of the most dangerous professions). They also have a relatively low barrier to entry. That is why these jobs are so difficult to obtain - not because they're so difficult that nobody wants to do them, but because they're so desirable that so many people want to do them. I would agree about the nursing situation, and I don't know enough about firefighters' situation to comment.
